After countless evenings researching solar products and installers, I eventually contacted Fit Solar through their website to discuss installing a solar PV and battery system on our late-1970s property. Mark arranged a site... Read more visit and took the time to talk us through the options. He was confident about how many panels we could fit on the roof and helped us decide on the most suitable configuration, including the choice between GivEnergy and FoxESS. Mark provided a few different quotes, and we ultimately decided to go with the FoxESS system: 14 panels providing 6.86kWp of generation, paired with an 11.5kWh battery. I was particularly happy with the FoxESS option because of its features, price, scalability and the ability to control and monitor the inverter through a local API. Interestingly, between the initial visit and receiving the proposal, GivEnergy went into administration, which made the decision to go with FoxESS feel even more reassuring! One of the things I liked about Fit Solar was that they are reasonably local to us in Highnam, Gloucestershire, being based in Stroud. They also handled the entire DNO application, paperwork and commissioning process for us. The DNO approval took a while, but that was outside Fit Solar's control. Once approval came through, everything moved very quickly. The installation team were excellent. They were tidy, professional and respectful of our property throughout the installation. The scaffolding went up within a few days of approval, followed shortly afterwards by the panels, and everything was completed without any major issues. We've now had the system installed for over a month and are very happy with it. There was one minor issue initially where we weren't able to adjust the battery's state-of-charge limit. Fit Solar contacted FoxESS on our behalf and arranged for a firmware update to be pushed to the inverter, which resolved the issue. One of the installers, Joe, also took the time to help me get the system connected to our Wi-Fi and showed me how to change various settings, which was really appreciated. The system's performance has been great so far. Over the past month we've generated around 1.1MWh from the panels. Around 25% of that generation has been stored in the battery, while roughly 50% has been exported to the grid. Most importantly, our electricity costs have dropped from around £200 per month to roughly £20. And this is before getting our Export MPAN set up with Octopus! The battery has been particularly useful alongside Octopus Agile, allowing us to make the most of the solar we've generated and continue powering the house from stored energy when the sun isn't shining or when we're using more electricity than the panels are producing. Overall, we're extremely happy with both the system and the installation. Choosing an installer was probably the hardest part of the whole process, after spending countless hours researching different companies and systems. I'm very glad we chose Fit Solar and would happily recommend them to anyone considering solar and battery storage.

Mark was very patient in providing a number of quotes for different variations including whether to include batteries to the system or not and how many. The quote that we proceeded on was I consider a fair price, not the cheapest and not the dearest. The installation was carried out by friendly employees, and nothing was to much trouble re agreeing how and where to install the panels and batteries. After the installation ‘both’ Marks visited to inspect the installation and to explain how to manage and monitor the panels and the energy they provide.
