Project Quick Facts

Solar array and storage system for bungalow.

  • Location: Brockley Road, Leonard Stanley, Gloucestershire
  • Installed: February 2026
  • System: 10 x 435W All-Black Modules, 10.36 kWh Battery, 5kW Single Phase Inverter

The Challenge

Future-Proofing Retirement Against Energy Inflation

The homeowners at Brockley Road, having recently retired, were focused on long-term financial security. Their primary objective was to eliminate the volatility of rising energy market prices and lock in low fixed living costs.

As former owners of a property with a Feed-in Tariff (FIT), they were already "solar-savvy." However, their new challenge was to transition from the old model of simply exporting power to a modern, self-sufficiency model that could power a contemporary home with minimal grid reliance

The Solution

A High-Efficiency Self-Consumption System

Fit Solar designed a compact but high-output system specifically engineered for maximum energy retention. By combining high-wattage panels with a sophisticated battery storage solution, the system was designed to bridge the gap between daytime generation and evening usage.

Energy Independence

Unlike their previous FIT system which rewarded exporting, this system was optimised for self-consumption. By installing a battery nearly double the size of the solar array's peak hourly output allows the couple to "ignore" the grid during peak evening hours.

Client Outcome

The retired couple achieved their goal of "locking in" their energy costs. By leveraging their previous knowledge of solar and upgrading to a modern storage-first solution, they have ensured that their home remains affordable and sustainable throughout their retirement.

The Results

7-Year Payback and Total Peace of Mind

The installation successfully transitioned the clients from energy consumers to energy producers, providing a predictable financial roadmap for their retirement.

Financial Impact:

  • Annual Savings: Estimated at £921 in the first year.

  • Return on Investment: A projected payback period of just 7 years, after which the electricity generated is effectively free.

  • Asset Appreciation: The high-spec Aiko panels and Fox ESS battery add significant tangible value to the property.

  • Energy Bill Protection: By generating an estimated 3,969 kWh per year, the couple is shielded from future utility price hikes.
