Maximising Revenue for Luxury Holiday Lets at Chapel Hill Barn

  • 3 min read

Project Quick Facts

Solar array and storage system private residential & commercial (Holiday lets).

  • Location: Aylburton, Gloucestershire
  • Installed: November 2025
  • System: 29 x Gen 2/3 N-type all-black modules, 20.72 kWh Fox ESS EP11 battery storage (Dual high-voltage stacks), 10kW single phase inverter

The Challenge

Protecting Profit Margins Against Rising Energy Costs

The owner of Chapel Hill Barn recently expanded their property by building two high-specification holiday lets. However, with electricity costs for the combined estate set to double, the viability of the new business venture was at risk.

The client needed a solution that could support the increased load of multiple households, including the main home and the guest accommodation, while ensuring that energy overheads remained low enough to protect their profit margins.

The Solution

A High-Capacity Hybrid System for Year-Round Performance

Fit Solar designed an industrial-scale residential system using "Top-of-the-Range" technology. The focus was on high-density generation and significant storage capacity to ensure the property could remain self-sufficient even during the shorter days of the winter season.

Winter Resilience & Off-Peak Charging

To ensure the system performed year-round, Fit Solar implemented a smart energy management strategy:

  • Daylight Harvesting: Utilising N-Type Aiko panels that generate power in low-light conditions.

  • Smart Tariff Integration: During the winter months, the 20kWh battery is configured to charge from the grid at cheap off-peak rates, providing the holiday lets with low-cost power during expensive peak periods.

Client Outcome

The client was so impressed with the system's performance, particularly its ability to deliver results throughout the winter months, that they have since instructed Fit Solar to install a solar and battery solution on another property in their portfolio.

The Results

5-Year Payback and a Repeat Client

The system has delivered exceptional performance, generating enough electricity to run the main home and both holiday lets for the majority of the year.

Financial Impact:

  • Rapid ROI: The investment is on track for a full payback in just 5 years.

  • Operational Savings: By offsetting the majority of the electricity usage, the holiday lets can be marketed as "Eco-Friendly," adding a competitive edge while reducing fixed costs.

  • Future-Proofed: The modular nature of the Fox ESS batteries means the client can increase storage as the business grows.
